Love Around the World
Every February 14th, people around the world celebrate love, romance and connection. Few people, however, know how Valentine’s Day began. The story traces back to ancient Rome, where Saint Valentine secretly married couples despite a royal ban. His act of love and defiance turned him into a symbol of lover, romance and devotion. Over the centuries, this day evolved from a religious commemoration into a global celebration of affection in all its forms, not only between partners but also between friends, and family.
How Valentine's Day is celebrated around the word
Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many unique ways across the globe.
In the United States, people exchange cards, chocolates, and roses to express their love. In Japan, women traditionally give chocolates to men, while men return the gesture a month later on “White Day.” In France, often called the romantic capital of the world, candlelight dinners and handwritten love notes never go out of style. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, Valentine’s Day has become a lovely excuse to surprise someone with a heartfelt message or a small, thoughtful gift.
No matter where you are, Valentine’s Day reminds us that love, in all its expressions, deserves to be celebrated. And what better way to share that feeling than with something sweet and personal?
